"Payal Ramchandani was a delight to see: slow, languorous, unrushed Kuchipudi, each hasta unfolding like lotus petals, each movement clearly enunciated and each of the 3 items she presented (two she had choreographed herself) had depth and meaning. Kuchela in Madhava Tarangam was well etched as also the lovelorn nayika in the Javali, suggesting devious ways to unite with her lover. Payal is the next generation Kuchipudi star to watch out for. Just 28, (leap year born, so she is only 7!) she has learnt from three seniors of the form, Raja-Radha Reddy, Jayarama-Vanashree Rao and now special tutelage under fine talent Kishore Mosalikanti, the happening Kuchipudi dancer, teacher and duo."

Payal Ramchandani, an accomplished and elegant Kuchipudi dancer from Newcastle delighted the audience with some beautiful, well executed Kuchipudi on a hot Friday evening in London.Payal’s command over rhythm and quiet confidence was highlighted in sections where she chose to concentrate only on the head and neck movements and accomplishing it with ease…the first item, though sedate was a good introduction for what was to come. Payal then launched straight into a javali-a heroine who is married to one man and in love with another. The husband leaves home on business and the heroine takes this opportunity to invite her lover home. Payal was adept at effortlessly portraying the glee of the heroine on her husband’s departure, her annoyance with the reluctant lover and the numerous ways in which she cajoles him to accept her invitation. The third piece was another classic: Rusali Radha Rusala Madhav, a Marathi composition describing a tiff between Krishna and Radha…With some excellent choreography and perfectly composed music Payal brought the nature sequences alive.The final piece was from the famous Krisha Leela Taringini composed by Narayana Teertha.Payal gave a compelling presentation and finishes with several step sequences.She finished with a flourish by performing while standing on a plate, a signature Kuchipudi sequence. The slow and fast paces rhythms, the circular movements, the backward glides, all while on a plate, revealed Payal’s excellent control of movement, rhythm and presentation skills. The final three compositions were all choreographed by Payal herself and were noteworthy….the evening was well rounded an,d extremely enjoyable.

Her faultless footwork, supple movements and lyrical elegance-in fact, the sheer poetry of dance were so irresistibly fetching. The levels of artistic excellence reached by the young dancer as was evident in the variety of sancharis employed in stimulating in the audience various emotions shading off into states of aesthetic contemplations cannot be too highly praised.”

She displayed her mastery in abhinaya in a Swati Tirunal composition ‘Chaliye Kunjanamo’ ….she sent the audience into a scintillating reverie as she kept dancing on the rims of a brass plate.”
“Stances and rhythm were immaculate right from the Shiva Panchakshara start.What is more, there is an inner composure and contained bearing which is reassuring in one so young.Particularly illustrative of this aspect were the Vamanavataram and Narasimhavataram in the Dasavataram number.Payal has a fine feel for rhythmic niceties.”
